Workshop highlights non-violence philosophy of Gandhi

(VNF) - The Embassy of India in Vietnam in partnership with the University of Social Sciences & Humanities (USSH) and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), organised a seminar titled “Mahatma Gandhi: the Saint from Gujarat” to mark the 148th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at the Daewoo Hotel on October 2nd

The event also 45th anniversary of Vietnam-India diplomatic ties (1972), and 10 years of the International Day of Non-Violence (October 2nd).

At the seminar, participants who spoke at the event included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh, Vice President of VASS; Most Ven. Thich Duc Thien, General Secretary of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh, Rector of USSH and Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, Deputy Director General of the Department of Religions of Vietnam Fatherland Front.

The workshop gave an insight into the life of Mahatma Gandhi – a great national leader of India who is famous for the philosophy of “non-violence”.

Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish said the workshop creates an opportunity for Vietnam and India to honour their friendship as well as commemorate the great father of India.

A Vietnamese translation of Gandhi’s book The Essence of Hinduism, done by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Thu Ha, Head of the Department of Indian Studies, USSH, was also released on the occasion.

The over 400-page book is divided into five main parts highlighting the philosophy of Gandhi. It is part of a project sponsored by the VASS entitled “Knowledge about Hinduism and Hinduism in Vietnam”./.
