Vietnamese seaports welcome first shipments of New Year 2019

A series of ports from the North to the South received their first shipments of the New Year 2019 on January 1 while most agencies and organisations were enjoying the four-day holidays, says Nhan Dan News.

Three seaports of Hoang Dieu, Chua Ve and Tan Vu (Hai Phong city) on the first day of the new year held ceremonies to welcome first consignments.

In more details, Hoang Dieu port received over 4,000 tonnes of steel from Deryoung Sunysky vessel from Hong Kong (China), while Chua Ve port received the first shipment from the Vinafco 26 vessel (Vietnam) on January 1.

On the same day, Cai Lan port (Quang Ninh province) received Huyndai Paramount vessel from India and the Aquilla Ocean vessel from Singapore, unloading 519 containers and 43,000 tonnes of cargo, respectively.

Meanwhile, Da Nang Port welcomed its first shipment of the year from 23,000 DWT vessel, Wanhai 265, from Singapore. According to General Director of Da Nang Port Nguyen Huu Sia, Da Nang port continues to prove its important role in the socio-economic development of the central region, as well as affirming its stature as the biggest seaport in Central Vietnam with impressive performance in 2018: 8.65 million tonnes of cleared cargo, up 7.7% over 2017.

In general, Vietnam's seaport system has achieved positive growth in 2018, with the total volume of cleared goods estimated at nearly 597 million tonnes, according to the Vietnam Maritime Administration. In particular, the number of containers through ports amounted to approximately 17.7 million TEUs, an increase of 20% compared to 2017. The total capacity of the seaport system reached 95-98% in 2018.

For the year 2019, the Vietnam Maritime Administration has set the target of clearing about 640 million tonnes of goods, including over 190 million tonnes of containers./.
