Vietnamese people consume nearly 73 tons of ice cream per day

VNF - Ice cream industry in Vietnam this year witnesses the sales of 26,000 tons, bringing about USD 1,3 billion revenue for ice cream suppliers.

Euromonitor, a market research firm, said the retail sales of ice cream and dessert food this year were estimated at 26,600 tonnes, up 7% from last year. On average, Vietnamese consume 72.8 tons this kind of food each day.

The revenue will be about VND 3,033 billion (USD 1,3 billion), up 15% over last year and twice as much as 5 years ago. This impressive growths comes from the fact that Vietnamese people are having increasing incomes and higher quality of life.

Due to the influence of Japanese culture, green tea flavor gradually dominates the market. Sales of this product this year only ranked behind the traditional flavors such as chocolate and vanilla.

The biggest ice cream suppliers such as Vinamilk and Nestlé Vietnam also quickly added this flavor to the list of products. Their new products are reported to have a major impact on the ice cream business as both companies own well-known brands and distribution networks nationwide.

Euromonitor's report shows that the market share of ice cream is clearly differentiated. Accordingly, Kido Group has maintained the leading position with 40.2%, a significant increase compared to last year. Following this, Merino and Celano  accounted for approximately 22% and 15% respectively.

Vietnam Dairy Products (Vinamilk) and Unilever Vietnam share the following positions with 9.1% and 8.4%, respectively. Their market share decreased by 0.1-0.4% compared to last year.

Some luxury brands overseas as Baskin-Robbins Swensens and are showing strong growth, especially in unpackaged ice cream segment./.
