Speaking at the meeting, Ong Vinh Khang, member of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association told the delegation about the need for a Vietnamese language training program for Myanmar staff, to facilitate the work of Vietnamese enterprises investing in Myanmar as well as reinforce two countries' mutual understandings. According to Khang, Rector of the University of Yangon has affirmed strong commitment to supporting the project.

On behalf of ULIS leaders, Vice Rector Ngo Minh Thuy thanked the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Association and the Yangon University for trusting ULIS in launching the Vietnamese language center in Yangon. As an institution specializing in foreign languages, ULIS welcomes every opportunity to develop partnership in the training and research of new foreign languages, especially those of Southeast Asian countries. Therefore, ULIS will strongly support the establishment of a Vietnamese language center in Yangon.

At the moment, ULIS is busily preparing for the launch of the Vietnamese language training cooperation program. The university will send lecturers with qualified Vietnamese and English language skills to teach at the University of Yangon.

The long-run project will be started on the basis of small classes of about 50 to 60 students. According to the plan, in February, the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association and ULIS will sign a cooperation agreement to lay a foundation for teaching and exchange activities in the future.

Established in 1878, the University of Yangon (located in Kamayut Town, Yangon, Myanmar) is the most famous university of this country. During the 1940s and 1950s, Yangon University was the most prestigious university in Southeast Asia and one of Asia's leading universities./.
