Vietnamese delegates to participate in World Festival of Youth and Students

The Vietnamese delegation, made up of 116 outstanding youth representatives, will participate in the major activities of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS), to take place in Sochi, Russia from October 14th to 22nd.

The announcement was made by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMYU) Central Committee at a press briefing in Hanoi on October 11th.

The 19th World Festival of Youth and Students will take place in Sochi, Russia.

Under the action slogan “For peace, solidarity and social justice, we struggle against imperialism – Honouring our past, we build the future,” the festival is expected to welcome roughly 12,000 delegates from countries and territories around the world. This is one of the most important political events organised by the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY), aiming to gather progressive youth and students in the world in the struggle against imperialism, for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress.

Addressing the press conference, Nguyen Phi Long, Secretary of the HCMYU Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Youth Federation, emphasised that the Vietnamese delegation’s presence at WFYS 2017 will contribute to advertising the image of Vietnamese land and people to international friends; demonstrating the role of young people in the cause of constructing and protecting socialist Vietnam; and strengthening solidarity, friendship and cooperation between Vietnamese youth and those from other countries.

In addition, Vietnam’s participation will work to enhance the country’s position, reflecting Vietnam’s responsibility and active contributions to the world youth and student movements, for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress. The festival will also offer an occasion to fortify Vietnam’s friendship and cooperation with Russian organisations and partners in the field of youth, as well as to consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia, Long stated.

During their stay in Russia, the Vietnamese delegation will present speeches and attend major conferences and symposiums featuring various topics, including the achievements of the October Revolution; the role of young people in the fields of labour, science and technology, culture, education, health, environment; and international solidarity and cooperation for peace, democracy and progress.

Together with other delegations, Vietnam will organise a youth exhibition and a friendship pavilion, aiming to promote the image of Vietnam, particularly the country’s young generation. It will also introduce Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements after over 40 years of reunification and over 30 years of its Doi Moi (Renewal) policy, whilst advertising a variety of products imbued with Vietnamese identities.

Within the framework of the festival, Vietnamese delegates will attend bilateral exchanges and meetings, including the high-level meetings with leaders of the WFDY and the Lao, Cuban and Russian delegations, in an effort to strengthen solidarity and friendship between traditional friend organisations. Particularly, the Vietnamese delegation will contribute several pieces of musical performance for Asia Pacific Day./.
