Vietnamese, Lao national universities foster exchanges

(VNF) - A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked by the Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) and the National University of Laos (NUOL) in Vientiane on January 26.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed that local authorities would back up collaboration between the two universities, expecting that the ties will generate more effective outcomes in the future.

Meanwhile, VNUHCM President Huynh Thanh Dat, said the NUOL is among the first universities in Southeast Asia to set up partnership with the VNUHCM, with the two sides signing their first MoU in January 1998.

The two universities have worked together to organize mutual visits, joint studies, student exchanges, and seminars, he said, noting that the latest MoU signified further collaboration for quality tertiary education in Southeast Asia.

Lao Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Boualane Siripanya, for his part, praised Ho Chi Minh City’s support toward Laos’ education sector to date. He stated that the freshly signed MoU would contribute to bilateral cooperation and Laos’ human resources development.

The MoU signed between VNUHCM and NUOL will facilitate the two institutions' exchange of lecturers, post-graduates, students, and scientific publications, as well as holding joint seminars, conferences, and talks on specialized themes.

As part of the cooperation, the Vietnamese university will offer scholarships to teachers and students at NUOL, and help enhance the researching capacity of Laotian researchers and lecturers, particularly in the field of information and technology./.
