Vietnam, Korea's Parliamentary Friendship Groups join hands to promote bilateral ties

National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan recently spoke highly of the results of the working session between two Parliamentary Friendship Groups of Vietnam and Korea. They have been unceasingly promoting their role as a bridge connecting the two sides’ National Assembly and the people of the two countries, she emphasized. 

The statement was made in the meeting between NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Chairman of the Korea-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group Kim Hak-Yong. 

In the meeting, Ngan expressed her delight to receive Kim Hak-Yong and Korean Parliament members again as well as her impression of Korea’s brilliant socio-economic achievements during the visit to the country in December.

At the same time, the NA Chairwoman spoke highly of the dynamic cooperation and meaningful exchange activities between the two Parliamentary Friendship Groups, especially the friendly football match joined by two groups in the afternoon of January 18.

The sport exchange, according to Ngan, greatly contributes to increasing mutual understanding, solidarity and friendship of the two sides.

These are practical activities which are conducted to implement the contents of cooperation in the agreement signed by two NA’s leaders during the visit of the Vietnamese NA delegation to Korea in December 2018. 

Kim Hak-Yong, for his part, thanked the Vietnamese NA Chairwoman for taking her time to join the meeting and spoke highly of her recent visit to Korea.

On this occasion, on behalf of the Korean-Vietnamese Parliamentary Friendship Group, he congratulated Vietnam on winning the Southeast Asian Football Championship (AFF Suzuki Cup) on January 17, and extended best wishes to the team competing in Asian Cup 2019. 

Talking about the friendly football match by two Parliamentary Groups on January 18, Kim Hak-Yong said it was a very meaningful activity, symbolizing the friendship of two countries’ Parliamentary Groups, and looked forward to similar kind of football exchanges to be held in Korea. 

Regarding the results of the exchange session of the two Groups on the morning of January 18, Kim Hak-Yong said, the two sides have come up with many proposals on boosting cooperation in the future. At the same time, he affirmed that the Korea - Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group will do their best to fruitfully implement what discussed in the working session. 

Furthermore, he congratulated Vietnam on achieving GDP growth rate of over 7% in 2018, amidst many challenges facing the world economy, and expressed the confidence in the thriving Vietnam – Korea relations in the future. 

Sharing the view with Kim Hak-Yong, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan emphasized the practical and comprehensive development of the Vietnam-Korea relations based on political trust between high-ranking leaders, the connection in history, cultural similarities, mutual economic support, as well as two peoples’ ties. 

After upgrading the relation to strategic partnership in 2009, the two countries have become important partners. Cooperation in terms of economics, trade, investment, labor have been growing robustly.

Meanwhile, cooperation in culture, education and people exchange has been tremendously improved, in terms of both quality and quantity, laying a solid foundation for the two peoples to enhance mutual understanding. Currently, there are about 65,000 families formed by Vietnam-Korean marriage. 

Flights between cities of the two countries have been increased rapidly, creating more opportunities to enhance cooperation and people-to-people exchange. 

NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan spoke highly of the results of the working session between two Parliamentary groups of Vietnam and Korea. According to her, the two Parliamentary Parliamentary Groups have been unceasingly promoting their role as a bridge between the two sides’ National Assembly and the people of the two countries. 

Based on the results, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan asked two Parliamentary groups to continue working on new initiatives to enhance exchanges and contacts between two sides. Particularly, she encourage two sides to increase initiatives on lawmaking cooperation, and jointly supervise the implementation of cooperation agreements that the two governments have signed for the mutual benefit of the two peoples. 

Kim Hak-Yong said that there are about 150,000 Koreans living, working in Vietnam and about 170,000 Vietnamese people living and working in Korea. He expressed his hope that the Vietnamese NA will continue to pay attention to support the Korean community in Vietnam, while affirming that the NA of Korea will do its best to support the Vietnamese community in Korea./.
