3 a.m. 10th July, 2018, the fire blazed at the Mittapheap village, Russey Keo district, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, wiping out homes of over 60 Vietnamese Cambodian families and 10 Cambodian families.

Informed of the fire, the Central Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) has called for support from local Associations, businesses and individuals. The aid was projected for rebuilding 57 shelters and helping the victims re-settle.

In response to the call, individual and organization donors country-wide have raised over USD 43,000 for post-fire relief.

The aid signified the sharing and caring spirit from the donors and VCFA at all levels, said Vu Mao, President of the Central VCFA. This is also a significant outcome of the first-ever fund-raising activity hosted by the central VCFA.

With appreciation, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Park Nguon Hong thanked all donors and VCFA in particular for the physical and mental support. He assured more cooperation between the Embassy and VCFA to strengthen the mutual friendship in the future.

In 2018, the Central VCFA paid great attention to local expansion. So far there have been over 40 provincial VCFA and 12 sub-units of the central VCFA nation-wide. 2018 also saw a wide range of VCFA exchange and charity activities. Currently VCFA is sponsoring 200 Cambodian students in Vietnam. The Charity Board of Vietnam – Cambodia Business Club (of over 200 members) has organized 10 charity trips worth over USD 500,000.
