Vietnam - Cambodia ties has great potential for development in the future: Official

(VNF) - Vietnam and Cambodia have enhanced their friendship through people-to-people exchange activities, which contributed to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and cooperation between two countries. 

This remark was made by Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan at a reception for a Cambodian delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Chairwoman of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Men Sam An, in Ho Chi Minh City on October 8th.

The fourth Vietnamese-Cambodian people’s cooperation and friendship meeting is being held in HCM City and Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces from October 7th – 12th.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the HCM Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan highly appreciated the friendship and cooperation activities between the two countries and stressed that this is a practical activity to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of the countries’ diplomatic ties this year.

At the same time, Nhan congratulated the exchanges between two friendship associations and results of two years of implementation of cooperation programs between the two parties, which was successfully held on October 8th.

He believed that the two sides had the opportunity to share valuable experiences in the work of the people's foreign affairs, achievements and suggested on further cooperation in the future, contributing to the development of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The Secretary of the HCM Party Committee affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam, including HCM City, are always willing to consolidate and develop relations with Cambodia under the motto of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation,” bringing practical benefits to the two peoples, contributing to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.

As an economic center of Vietnam, Nhan emphasised, HCM City always respects, preserves and does its best to continue strengthening the ties between the two countries, promoting cooperations between HCM City and Cambodian localities.

He added his city has enhanced cooperation with sectors and localities of Cambodia through delegation exchanges, tourism, trade and investment promotion programmes, and charitable activities supporting low-income people in Cambodia.

He recalled Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen’s visit to the crossing point along the Cambodia-Vietnam border in commemoration of his 40 years’ path of seeking support from Vietnam to overthrow the Pol Pot’s Regime, which stretches from Cambodia’s Memot district, Tbong Khmum province to Vietnam’s Loc Ninh district, Binh Phuoc province.

Citing the Cambodian PM’s statement during his tour to southern localities of Vietnam “Without Vietnam’s sacrifice, there would not have been Cambodia now”, Nhan affirmed it is a testimony to the close relationship between the two people.

“Our two countries will continue to create opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, including Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodian provinces in the future," he added.

At the meeting, Deputy PM Men Sam An said under the two countries’ agreements, the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association has carried out several cooperation activities with Vietnam such as organizing visiting trips to old battlefield in Cambodia for veterans, relatives of martyrs' families and former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers.

She pledged to join her association in stepping up people-to-people diplomatic activities and educating younger generations on the time-honoured solidarity between the two nations.

President of the Central Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, Vu Mao, for his part, thanked the leaders of HCM City for taking the time to receive the Vietnamese and Cambodian People's Delegations. 

The meeting signifies special attention from the leaders of the Party, State as well as HCM City to people-to-people's diplomacy in general and the two associations in particular, Mao emphasised.

He also expressed his hope that HCM City will continue to carry out friendly cooperation activities with Cambodian people, especially the “Nurturing the seeds of friendship” movement; assisting Cambodian students in the city; promoting friendship exchange programs between students and youths to enhance understanding, solidarity between the young generation of the two nations.

At the end of the meeting, delegates from the two countries attended an intimate, cozy dinner and enjoyed a range of  cultural performances of the two countries’ artists.

Earlier, on the same day, the Vietnamese-Cambodian People's delegation paid a visit to Ho Chi Minh City High Tech Park and studied some production models of enterprises operating in the area./.
