VUFO’s 9 outstanding events in 2018

Mrs. Nguyen Phuong Nga appointed as Secretary of VUFO Party’s Designated Representation

On December 10 in Hanoi, The Central Party's Commission for Organization announced the Decision of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee on appointing Nguyen Phuong Nga, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs as Secretary of the Party's designated representation of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO). Mrs. Nga was also introduced as candidate for the coming VUFO Presidential election.

Nga has 30 years of experience in foreign affairs. Before joining VUFO, she was Deputy Foreign Minister and Permanent Representative of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the United Nations.


Foreign non-governmental aid between 1996 - 2017 reached 4.3 billion USD.

On July 5 in Hanoi, the People’s Aid Co-ordinating Committee held a conference to review its work in the period of 1996 - 2017. According to the report at the conference, currently, Vietnam has relations with over 1000 NGOs, of which about 500 organizations are operating regularly. Every year, NGOs support about 3000 programs and projects. Aid disbursement over 20 years estimated at over 4.3 billion USD.

NA Chairwoman meets with contributors to Vietnam – RoK friendship

On the morning of December 6, 2018, in Seoul, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with contributors to Vietnam – RoK friendship. Many businesses, Korean NGOs, experts, scholars and friendship organizations attended the event. This is another demonstration for the role and effectiveness of people-to-people exchange in promoting relations between Vietnam and countries around the world.

VUFO and Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee signed a coordination program

On July 9 in Hanoi, VUFO and Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee signed a coordination program for period 2018-2021. This signing helps to further promote the synergy of parliamentary diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy, contributing to the successful implementation of the Party and State foreign policy in the international integration process. The joint program focuses on a number of areas such as information exchange, research and coordinating in implementation of appropriate external activities.

Logo contest celebrates 45 anniversary of Viet Nam-Canada diplomatic ties

On July 11, in Hanoi, Vietnam - Canada Friendship Association launched a logo contest to mark the 45th founding anniversary of Vietnam - Canada diplomatic relations as well as other celebrations of the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Association. After 3 months, the contest received 126 entries from authors in Vietnam and in Canada.

In the category of 45 years of Vietnam-Canada diplomatic ties, the first prize was presented to Ho Tu Anh and Tran Ngoc Vuong from the central city of Da Nang. Meanwhile, the design of Le Quy Hai from Hanoi won the first place to become the logo of the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Association.

Last September, the logo was introduced to international friends on Vietnam Day in Ottawa, Canada.

132 Vietnamese martyrs’ remains founded

In February 2018, the Vietnam-US Society welcomed the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) delegation to visit Vietnam. VVA implemented the "Veterans Initiative’’ program where through the sharing of information veteran-to-veteran, America’s and Vietnam’s veterans are able to develop new sources of information to help resolve the issue of American and Vietnamese MIA.

Thanks to the dossier provided by VVA in 2006, Vietnam has excavated and collected 132 sets of martyrs' remains. All were taken to Duong 9 Cemetery.

Local Unions focus on developing member associations

In 2018, the establishment and development of branches of the Union of Localities was focused. Specifically, the Bac Lieu Friendship Union established a new Vietnam - Laos, Vietnam - Cambodia, Vietnam - Japan; Dong Nai Union of Friendship Organizations established Vietnam - France, Vietnam - China, Vietnam - US Friendship Association; Ben Tre Friendship Union established the Vietnam - Japan, Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association; Tay Ninh Friendship Union established the Overseas Vietnamese Association of Tay Ninh Province; Thua Thien Hue Union established the Vietnam - Germany Friendship Association; Bac Giang Union established the Vietnam- Czech and Xlovakia Friendship Association. Some unions are preparing procedures to establish new member associations such as Ba Ria Vung Tau, Hau Giang, Binh Dinh, Dac Lac, Bac Ninh.

Successfully organizing seminars in the country and internationally

In 2018, the Vietnam Peace and Development Fund was very successful in organizing national and international conferences such as the Art Exchange Program "The Song of Peace"; Workshop "Uniting people for peace - security and sustainable development" in Quang Tri. Through programs and seminars, we shared with international friends about the situation of the East Sea, calling for international support to Vietnam's standpoint on resolving conflict disputes on the basis of respect for national law. At the same time, conveying the message of peace aspirations of Vietnamese people and peace-loving peoples in the world.

Many major events relating Vietnam – China

The 10-year anniversary of the Vietnam-China People's Forum is held in Beijing on September 9. Participating in the Forum are 16 experts, scholars and intellectuals from the two countries. The forum focuses on 4 contents: strengthening political trust, sharing common destiny, sharing experiences of opening and innovation reforms, promoting strategic link "belt, road" and "two corridors, one belt", strengthening the exchange of people. Other major activities are also successfully organized as: art program to celebrate 68 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China, photo exhibition, border defense exchange Vietnam - China, awarding Chinese People's Friendship Medal.
