VESAMO delegation pays visit to Vietnam

(VNF) - At the invitation of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) and the Vietnam – Korea Friendship Association (VKFA), the 20- person delegation of the Association of People Loving Vietnam in the Republic of Korea (VESAMO) led by Dr. Chang Ho Ick, VESAMO Chairman, paid a visit to Vietnam from April 21st - 24th, 2016.

During the visit, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Ms Nguyen Thi Thu, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee. The delegation also had meetings and discussions with Board of Directors of VKFA, VUFO, Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in HCMC and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in HCMC; visited and donated USD4,000 to the victims of dioxin in Hoa Binh village, USD4,000 to Thien Phuoc Humanitarian Centre and USD2,000 for house construction to a family of victim of Agent Orange in HCMC; visited and found investment opportunities in Phu Quoc island district; held Vietnam - Korea Friendly Exchange Night to celebrate 41st year of southern liberation and national reunification in HCMC.

On this occasion, two members of VESAMO, currently businesspersons in HCMC, walked for 18 days (April 4th – 21st) from the southernmost province of Ca Mau to HCMC with an aim to call on businesses and philanthropists of Korea to contribute to the scholarship fund for poor students in Vietnam. (In 2014, they made a one month walking tour from Ho Chi Minh city to Da Nang city, and in 2015 from Da Nang to Ha Noi with the same purpose). Through the introduction of VKFA, during the walking tour, they coordinated with The Tra Vinh Union of Friendship Organizations holding Vietnam – Korea Music Night and gave the scholarship of 100 million VND which was donated during the tour to poor students in Tra Vinh.

The Association of People Loving Vietnam in the Republic of Korea (VESAMO) was found in 2002, in Busan, Korea. VESAMO membership mainly consists of those who are active in professional occupations such as academics, businessmen, lawyers, and tax officials. There is also the enthusiastic participation of those who are active in the field of arts and many other classes in society.

With the statement “VESAMO - a friend of Vietnam, will always be beside and participate actively in the support and assistance to Vietnamese people in South Korea, so that they can feel culture and sincere feelings of Koreans for the Vietnamese”, over 14 years, VESAMO has always cooperated and supported Vietnamese students, workers and brides. The organization has taken on well its role as a bridge, constantly promoting exchanges between academics and businessmen of the two countries./.
