US to keep possibility of Trump – Rouhani meeting despite accusing Iran of Saudi oil field attacks

The US did not dismiss the potential meeting between its President Donald Trump and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday (September 15) after blaming Iran for supporting the attack of Saudi Aramco oil plants, carried out by Yemeni Houthi rebels.

On Sunday (September 15), the US adviser Kellyanne Conway expressed the message that the Saudi oil field attacks “did not help” the future of the Trump – Rouhani meeting in the sideline of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly this month, however, the possibility were still opened.

Conway said “I’ll allow the president (Trump) to announce a meeting or a non-meeting” in the interview of “Fox News Sunday”.

She also emphasized that the US’s “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran for developing its nuclear and ballistic missile program will not be stopped even when the meeting between two leaders is held as in their plan.

Furthermore, President Trump posted on Twitter “The Fake News is saying that I am willing to meet with Iran, ‘No Conditions.’ That is an incorrect statement (as usual!)” as the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had affirmed “He (Trump) is prepared to meet with no preconditions”.

Trump also shared that “There is reason to believe that we know the culprit, are locked and loaded depending on verification, but are waiting to hear from the Kingdom as to who they believe was the cause of this attack, and under what terms we would proceed!”

Earlier Sunday, Mike Pompeo had accused Iran of backing its Yemeni alignment, Houthi rebels to attack the Saudi’s Aramco oil facilities by drones on Saturday (September 14), before the Iran rejected this condemnation and even warned that the US military bases and aircraft carriers were within the range of Iran’s missiles.

The oil prices increased more than 15% and according to Saudi state – owned oil company Aramco, the Saudi oil production reduced to 5.7 million barrels per day as a consequence of the attack.
