The fourth Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship and People-to-People Cooperation Meeting concluded

(VNF) - After a vibrant week filled with various friendship exchange programmes, the fourth “Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship and People-to-People Cooperation Meeting” was officially wrapped up on October 11th in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, with the participation of the delegations from Vietnam and Cambodia.

Attending the closing ceremony were Vu Mao, Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association; Chap Sotharith, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association; Dang Minh Thong, Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province; leaders of Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Associations together with local students.

The event is part of the activities held in the fourth “Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship and People-to-People Cooperation Meeting” taking place in HCM.City from October 7th to 12th. The Vietnamese and Cambodian delegations were led by Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association Vu Mao and Chairwoman of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Men Sam An, who is also Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, respectively.

At the meeting, two people's delegations exchanged experiences in organizing friendship activities in localities and units, at the same time, proposed measures to further strengthen the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Speaking at the closing ceremony,  Chairman Vu Mao affirmed that having gone through considerable hardships in the past, the two peoples would enhance solidarity and cooperation in various fields, contributing to promoting cooperation.

According to the Chairman, the two sides had agreed that mutual solidarity and support have helped the two countries achieve great success in the struggle for national liberation in the past as well as in the cause of building and developing the country. Today, relations between the two countries have shifted to a new stage of development, with the goal of building “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation.”

The solidarity and good friendship have become the precious and sacred assets of the two nations, not only for present generations, but also for future generations. Therefore, continuing to build, consolidate and strengthen the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia is the shared responsibility of the Government, sectors from the central to the local levels, organisations and each individual of the two countries, including the two friendship organisations.

On behalf of the Cambodian people's delegation, Secretary General Chap Sotharith expressed his sincere thanks to the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association and Vietnamese localities for successfully organising the programme.

At the same time, he emphasised that the program helped members of the Cambodian delegation to better understand the historical traditions of the Vietnamese people as well as the solidarity, traditional friendship, mutual assistance between the two peoples during the struggle for independence as well as the building and development of each country.

He highly valued the activities of the two associations over the past time and hoped that the exchanges between the two countries would continue to be maintained and further developed, contributing to consolidating and strengthening the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

At the closing ceremony, delegates passed the Joint Communiqué on the fourth “Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship and People-to-People Cooperation Meeting”. Accordingly, the two sides agreed to set out the direction of activities in the period 2018 - 2020: continue to promote propaganda among the people, especially the young generation of good neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia; effectively implement the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Statement signed on the occasion of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visit to Cambodia in July 2017.

Two associations will also join hands to organise a series of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries; exchanging delegations at all levels, hosting experience exchange on the work of the two countries from central to local levels; strengthening activities in the economic and social fields; organising celebration and commemoration activities for the 40th anniversary of the victory over the Pol Pot genocide regime (January 7th, 1979-2019).

The two sides agreed to hold the fifth Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship and People-to-People Cooperation Meeting in Cambodia on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries./.
