Thanh Xuan tunnel ready for operation

(VNF) - As part of the Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Trai - Nguyen Xien T-junction, the Thanh Xuan tunnel project, is now ready for its inauguration ceremony.

Kicked off on June 28th, 2014 with a total investment of over VND500 billion, the project uses Japanese ODA loan from the remaining capital of the Hanoi belt road No.3.

The project includes a 980 meter - tunnel and approach road, in which the main tunnel is 109 meter length, 14 meter wide with four lanes. The main constructors are Cienco4 - Civil Engineering Construction Coporation No.4 (JSC) and HANSHIN Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. from the Republic of Korea.

As one of the Hanoi’s major transportation infrastructure projects, it is expected to open for public on January 8th.

So far, the projects of Thanh Xuan and Trung Hoa (Tran Duy Hung road-Thang Long Avenue) tunnels have been basically completed. Once open to the public, the tunnels are hoped to ease traffic congestion for To Huu road, Nguyen Trai road, Khuat Duy Tien road, Tran Duy Hung road and Thang Long Avenue, especial in peak hours.

Currently, Hanoi is now home to nearly eight million people, not including those who do not register for temporary residence/address.

The tunnel is constructed to divide vehicles from Nguyen Trai road to the T-junction. Each lane is 3.5 meter wide. Using top-down method of construction, the two main tunnels are mostly completed.

They are covered by asphalt concrete (which has been widely used since the 1920s) with road surface marking.

The lighting system and yellow painting are being carried out. Pedestrians and cyclists are not allowed to use the tunnel.

By connecting Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway project, Nguyen Trai road, and Hanoi belt road No.3, it forms the first ever four layers T-junction in Hanoi and the country as well.

The project is expected to ease the hours-long traffic jams and congestion for vehicles moving from Tran Phu, Ha Dong directions in the capital’s western region to Nguyen Xien and Khuat Duy Tien roads./.
