Talk on Venezuela situation after presidential election held in Hanoi

(VNF) - Situation in Venezuela  after the 2018 presidential election were provided at a talk jointly held by the Vietnam-Venezuela Friendship Association and Venezuelan Embassy in Hanoi on June 5th.

The talk brought together diplomats from the embassies of Angola, Cuba, Iran, Mozambique, Palestine, Russia, East Timor and representatives from the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Vietnam-Venezuela Friendship Association and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations.

Speaking at the event, Associate Professor PhD Nguyen Viet Thao, Vice Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration, said that the talk aims to provide attendees information about the situation in Venezuela, particularly after the presidential election which took place last month, and at the same time, share opinions and visions of the Bolivarian Revolution led by late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez as well as the future of the South American country.

Thao reiterated the Vietnamese people’s respect for Venezuela and its people and extended his congratulations to newly re-elected Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He also mentioned difficulties the Venezuelan people have suffered in recent years and expressed his belief in the victory of the Bolivarian Revolution.

Venezuelan Ambassador Jorge Rondon Uzcategui believed that Vietnam and Venezuela will enjoy further sound relations.

Venezuelan Ambassador Jorge Rondon Uzcategui, for his part, updated the attendees on the results of the vote, saying Nicolas Maduro won the presidential election for the second term with 68 per cent of the votes, making him the most voted president since 1958. His closest rival Henri Falcon received 1.8 million votes.

Ambassador Uzcategui affirmed that the election results showed Venezuelan people’s absolute trust in the leadership of the incumbent President Nicolas Maduro and the Bolivarian Revolution led by late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.

After the re-election, President Maduro pledged to further enhance political and economic reform, and at the same time continue the social welfare policies for the needy, which were pursued by the government over the past years. The President also called on political parties to join a dialogue to seek solutions for the nation and the people’s interests.

After the victory of President Nicolas Maduro, leaders of many countries worldwide sent message of congratulations to the United Socialist Party of Venezuela and the Bolivarian Revolution. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, and State President Tran Dai Quang extended their congratulations to Nicolas Maduro on his re-election.

Expressing his thanks to the Vietnam-Venezuela Friendship Association for joining hands with the Venezuelan Embassy to organise such event, the ambassador said that Venezuela would always treasure ties with Vietnam, a Southeast Asian country which plays an important role in promoting Venezuela’s economic reconstruction. The Venezuelan government always welcomes Vietnamese enterprises, he added.

He also stressed that the relations between Vietnam and Venezuela would grow further in the future with a focus on energy, mining and agriculture. He also noted that experiences learned from Vietnam’s Doi Moi (reform) period will be a motivation for the new stage of the Bolivarian Revolution.

Prospects for economic and trade development and the Vietnam-Venezuela solidarity would promote the cooperative relations between the two countries in the future, he affirmed.

At the forum, many participants expressed their beliefs the progressive government and people of Venezuela would find out an appropriate way for their country to advance along the path of socio-economic development./.
