Rotary Club of Bangkok brings fresh water to Bac Giang’s children

(VNF) - Representatives of the Rotary Club of Bangkok (RCB) on August 8th handed over two water purification systems with a total value of VND 36.5 million (USD 1,600) to the Kindergarden of Viet Lap commune, Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province.

Before that, on April 12th, Primary School of Viet Lap commune has also received water purification systems from RCB. This is the first two humanitarian charity projects of RCB implemented in Vietnam, with a total cost of VND 73 million (USD 3,212).

Attending the handover ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Van My - Head of the Asia-Pacific Division under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO); Mr. Nguyen Viet Loan, Secretary General of the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association; Mr. Duong Van Luan, Vice Chairman of Bac Giang Union of Friendship Organisations; Mr. Hoang Van Ha, Vice Chairman of Viet Lap Commune People's Committee; as well as the board of Viet Lap Kindergarden and RCB delegation.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Prapansak Phatayanond, former RCB President and Vice President of Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association stressed that RCB is implementing this project with the desire to bring clean water to students of Viet Lap Kindergarden, contributing to the hygiene and health of the children. Thereby, create the best conditions for children to grow up.

On this occasion, he thanked the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association, VUFO and the Bac Giang Union of Friendship Organisations for coordinating and helping RCB succeessfully complete this project.

Appreciating the charitable activities of RCB in Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Van My emphasized that this is a practical action of the club in strengthening the mutual understanding and friendship between Vietnam and Thai people. At the same time, he hoped that the students and the school would cherish the effort and feelings of RCB and use the water filter system effectively.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong, a teacher of the school said that they were pleased to welcome the delegation come to visit and encourage the students.

Before, the school had to buy water outside for students to drink and use daily life so it was very inconvenient and extremely expensive. Therefore, the newly-installed water purification systems has great significance, reflecting the close attention of RCB as well as the central and local authorities to the students and the school.

Rotary is an organization that brings together entrepreneurs, businesses of various professions united by their commitment to improving lives. There are currently 35,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide with 1.25 million members. In the ASEAN region, Rotary had established clubs in Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and hopefully in the future, Rotary Club in Vietnam will be established.

The highlight of RCB's work is the polio vaccine for infants. The project has been in operation for more than 30 years and is still being implemented. With Rotary's contribution now that paralysis has been almost eliminated across the globe./.
