Requiem ceremony held for martyrs and civilians in Northern border province

(VNF) – A requiem ceremony to commemorate heroic martyrs and fallen civilians in the Northern border provinces of Vietnam was held on June 9 in the Vi Xuyen National Martyrs Cemetary in Ha Giang province.

Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien, Vice President of the Vi Xuyen District People’s Committee, Dang Thi Phuong, and representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front attended the event.

The requiem service was held in a solemn atmosphere, aiming to express the gratitude to the fallen heroic soldiers in the Vi Xuyen National Martyrs Cemetary.

Speaking at the event, Dang Dung, a female enterpreneur whose father was a martyr said “Having the chance to live in peace, we never forget the sacrifice the past generations had made. These kind of programme aims to pay tribute to the people who fought for independence, freedom of the nation. We wish that, the souls of the martyrs will keep blessing us on our cause of national protection and hope that those whose are still missing will soon be reunited with their close ones and rest in peace."

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of Vi Xuyen district People's Committee, Dang Thi Phuong, said “There are over 3,000 families of people with contribution to the country. Although different levels of the Party and local authorities have been paying great attention to taking care of these families, many are still struggling with difficulties and seriously in need for help. At the moment, in Vi Xuyen Cemetary, there are nearly 2,000 graves. In the time to come, another 2,000 martyrs’ remains will be re-buried in the cemetary.”

The requiem ceremony in Ha Giang province is part of a project initiated by Professor Ngoc Huynh and his students' social work group. Together with their sponsors, the group has organized requiem service for fallen soldiers across the country, including in Con Dao and Vi Xuyen.

The group’s upcoming event will be a requiem ceremony for martyrs in Truong Son Cemetary.

In addition to commemorative activities, the group is also active in taking care of the needy families, families of martyrs and war invalids in the aforementioned localities.

During the trip to Vi Xuyen, the group has presented 200 gift sets to families of martyrs and war invalids in the district.

Furthermore, they also presented 2 sets of gift, each worths VND 5 million to 2 households suffering from a recent fire accident./.
