VUFO Vice President Bui Khac Son presents the friendship medal to Polish Ambassador Barbara Szymanowska.

Addressing the ceremony on May 8th, VUFO Vice President Bui Khac Son congratulated the Ambassador on her successful working tenure in Vietnam and recognised her active efforts to enhance cooperative relations between Vietnamese and Polish ministries, departments and localities over the past four years.

He stressed that the award aims to acknowledge the ambassador’s contributions to the friendship and cooperation between the people of Vietnam and Poland as well as other European countries.

Poland and Vietnam have a long tradition of friendly relations. Poland was among the first seven countries to recognise and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1950. The two countries have co-operated closely in various areas, including the academic, scientific, cultural and economic fields.

For 68 years, two countries’ relations have been developed in many fields. In politics, two countries exchange high level visits frequently. In November 2017, Polish President Andrzej Duda paid a state visit to Vietnam and due to that visit we have gained the momentum to boost our co-operation in all fields.

Two countries have signed a number of bilateral agreements, and thanks to those agreements we will enhance our co-operation in education, agriculture and environment as well as in the field of economics. Bilateral trade has been increasing since 2014 and has now reached more than USD one billion last year.

Son also underscored that more than 40.000 Vietnamese, who studied and worked in Poland, is playing a crucial role in fostering the bilateral relations.

She has worked closely with the VUFO and the Vietnam-Poland Friendship Association in people-to-people exchange activities and friendship meetings.

The VUFO Vice President said he hopes that the Ambassador, in any capacity, will continue contributing to developing the friendship and collaboration between the two nations.

For her part, Barbara Szymanowska said she is honoured to receive the medal, noting that during her working tenure in Vietnam, she had witnessed the strong development of Vietnam-Poland economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

She noted that geographical distance is not a deterrent to the special bonds between Poland and Vietnam over the past 68 years.

Many Vietnamese are living in Poland and more and more Polish people have found they are attached with Vietnam, the diplomat said, referring to them as a bridge to foster mutual understanding and good sentiments between the two people.

“My term as ambassador of Poland to Vietnam is coming to an end this summer. It has been a great honour for me to serve in Vietnam, and it has been four very rewarding years. We have achieved great results and have deepened our bilateral relationship significantly,” she said.

Barbara said she believes that the two countries’ ties will grow further and their cooperation will flourish across sectors./.
