Peruvian Ambassador: VUFO helps connect foreign diplomats and Vietnam

(VNF) – Vice President, General Secretary of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Don Tuan Phong, on April 3rd held a reception for Ambassador of Peru to Vietnam, Augusto Morelli.

At the meeting, VUFO Vice President talked to Ambassador Morelli on the mission and activities of VUFO, as well as listened to the Peruvian diplomat’s sharing about his impression of Vietnam since taking office in mid January.

According to Ambassador Morelli, despite he just arrived in Vietnam for a short while, he has had numerous unforgettable experiences with the new land, including the first Vietnamese traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) and amazing travels to several famous destinations in the Central part, such as Hoi An Ancient Town, Hue Imperial Citadel.

The Ambassador is also impressed by Hanoi, the city he is now based in, which holds lots of exotic features to explore.

On the occasion, the Ambassador spoke highly of VUFO as an excellent agency in people-to-people diplomacy, a field which he is highly interested in, besides bilateral ties in politics and economics.

In addition, he highlighted the role VUFO plays in connecting foreign diplomats like himself closer to local environment.

In the meeting, the Ambassador spoke to Vice President of VUFO on cooperations prospects of the two countries, noting the common traits of Vietnam and Peru as both countries are emerging economies, and are members of APEC and CP-TPP.

The Ambassador cited the operation of Viettel in Peru as an outstanding example in economic ties. The presence of the telecom group plays a significant role in strengthening the information infrastructures in Peru, he said, affirming that Peruvian government's commitment to ensure fair and equal competition environment for overseas enterprises.

Based on the bright prospects of Vietnam – Peru diplomatic relations, as the Vietnamese Embassy in Peru will be set up soon, the Ambassador expressed his strong belief that the two countries’ ties in trade, commerce will develop to its ful potential in the near future.

At the same time, he expressed his interest in seeking cooperation opportunities in education and culture. For instance, Vietnam and Peru can join hand in archiving, digitalizing precious ancient documents in library, he noted.

The diplomat, at the same time, voiced his willingness to strengthen the ties between Peruvian Embassy and Universities in Vietnam, especially those having Spanish language faculty.

VUFO Vice President, Don Tuan Phong, for his part, appreciated Ambassador Morelli’s great affection for Vietnam and his dedication to seeking cooperation opportunities for the two countries.

He affirmed VUFO’s willingness to assist the Ambassador in coming visits to Vietnam's localities, linking up the Embassy with different universities as well as providing supports for Peruvian delegations who wish to visit Vietnam, to help reinforce the friendship and partnerships between two countries./.
