The target participants of organic ginger cultivation model are poor households in Can Yen, Luong Thong, Da Thong, Luong Can communes and Thong Nong town.

Since the beginning of 2019, the Management Board of Supporting Program for Development in Thong Nong district has cooperated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thong Nong district to conduct surveys on land, soil and identify people’s needs to implement the model. At the same time, participants were trained on technical process of growing organic ginger and pesticide control methods.

The new model changed the produce methods to organic system to create safe products for consumers, while creating high and stable income for the community. The product is produced by the community and committed to be consumed by Vinh Phuc Packaging Food Joint Stock Company (Vipagro).

The activity is implemented by Aid for social protection program Foundation Vietnam (AFV) and the Management Board of Supporting Program for Development in Thong Nong district, with the financial support of ActionAid Vietnam.

The PFG-Vietnam project was implemented in four districts in four different provinces, including Thong Nong (Cao Bang province), Krong Bong (Dak Lak province), Duyen Hai (Tra Vinh province) and Dong Hai (Bac Lieu province), along with a number of national activities during the past four years from November 2014 to October 2018.

According to member from the community of Cu Kty commune (Krong Bong district), the project has helped the local community to establish a cooperative and connect it with local businesses and associations. It also helps local people to have more information, knowledge and confidence to actively realise their goals and dreams in hunger eradication and poverty reduction to enrich themselves on their homeland.

Currently, the PFG-Vietnam project is handed over to localities for replication across the country, helping to contribute to increased community participation in forest governance and poverty reduction in Vietnam./.
