New Year flag salutation ceremony held at nation’s easternmost mainland point

On the first day of the New Year, a national flag salutation ceremony was held in the country’s easternmost mainland point of Mui Dien, Phu Yen province, where the first sunlight is welcomed in the country.

The ceremony was solemnly held on January 1 with the participation of officers, soldiers, people and tourists, despite unfavorable weather conditions with heavy rain.

“I am very proud to sing the national anthem on the first day of the New Year," said Huynh Ngoc, a visitor from Tuy Hoa city of Phu Yen.

Meanwhile, another visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Van Toan, expressed his delight to visit Mui Dien, a famous tourist attraction of Phu Yen on the first day of 2019 and join the special ceremony for the first time. 

On the occasion, Phu Yen also held a ceremony to welcome the first 100 tourists to Bai Mon-Mui Dien national tourist site.

National flag salutation is an annual event held by the People’s Committee of Phu Yen as part of their patriotism education activities. Mui Dien is located near the historic site of Vung Ro, which is best known for the unnumbered legendary ships used by the liberation army in the Vietnam War. Nowadays, Mui Dien Dien Cape has become an attractive tourist destination, possessing rich value of natural landscape, history and culture. Mui Dien makes a wonderful landscape where the dawn is first seen daily, ideal for discovery.

According to Phan Dinh Phung, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, in the year 2019, the province will organize various cultural and artistic events to mark the 30th anniversary of its re-establishment and attract more tourists.

In 2018, Phu Yen tourism thrived with rising numbers of visitors. In 2018, the province welcomed 1.6 million tourists./.
