Vietnam and Myanmar have shared a sound traditional friendship. Myanmar was one of the first Southeast Asian countries to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam in 1975 and gave wholehearted support for Vietnam during the struggles for national independence and reunification.

The two nations upgrade their bilateral ties to a comprehensive cooperative partnership during a State visit to Myanmar by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in August 2017.

Last year's two-way trade hit USD 828.3 million 2017, up 51 per cent from 2016. Vietnam has become the 7th biggest foreign investor in Myanmar, pouring nearly USD 2 billion in 70 projects in the country./.
