Many children suffer from Tic disorder due to use of mobile phones

(VNF) - The Children's Hospital 1, Ho Chi Minh city recently have received many children with Tic disorder which is caused by excessive use of mobile phones.

On average, each day the Department of Neurology, Ho Chi Minh city Children’s Hospital 1 receives about 5-7 children with Tic disorder.

Lately, a 4-year-old boy from Kien Giang was taken to Children's Hospital 1 with facial muscle twitching, blinking eyes and even nausea. Doctors identify the patient with TIC order.

Ms P. H.T, the child’s mother said since he was 2 years old, he was so hyperactive that the mother must let him watch videos and play games on mobile phones so that he could be sit quiet.

However, a month ago, the baby began showing signs of facial muscle twitching, blinking eyes, occasionally nausea, so she took her son to hospital clinic and he was diagnosed with TIC.

According to Dr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Dean of the Department of Neurology, Ho Chi Minh city Children’s Hospital 1, children with Tic disorder often have abnormal movements or vocal outburst, most commonly blink of an eye, smirking, nose frowning ...

Gaming, watching smart phones or watching TV is a great cause of Tic disorder  in children.

"When children play games, use the phone or watch TV too much, the eyes and nerves are always in a state of high concentration leading to stress, not only increase the refractive error but also cause the onset of  Tic disorder "said Dr. Nguyen Quang Vinh.

In addition, some other factors can also lead to TIC disdorder such as academic stress, or being scolded ...

For children with TIC syndrome, the doctor usually prescribes medication to relieve the nervous system of the child, in some cases severe psychological treatment required.

Dr. Vinh warned that in the summer the number of TIC increases due to children are absent from school and use smart phones more often.

TIC syndrome is more common at 4-10 years of age. According to Dr. Vinh, TIC is a syndrome can not be treated thoroughly, the possibility of recurrence high, therefor parents need to limit children’s use of mobile phones, watching TV; children should go out to exercise, participate in collective activities to release energy./.
