Malaysia’s Independence Day celebrated at VUFO

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) recently hosted a ceremony of the 61st anniversary of Malaysia’s Independence Day (Aug 31, 1957 – 2018).

The ceremony was attended by VUFO leaders, representatives of ASEAN Embassies and representatives of local Unions of Friendship Organizations.

 President of the Vietnam – Malaysia Friendship Association, Ngo Sach Thuc made the opening remarks.

In his opening speech,  Ngo Sach Thuc, President of the Vietnam – Malaysia Friendship Association, reviewed significant milestones in the development of the mutual friendship. According to him, two countries’ comprehensive partnership has been remarkably consolidated and promoted in various fields throughout the journey of cooperation.

Malaysia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Dato’M. Zamruni Khalid, for his part, expressed his firm belief in the advance of the Vietnam – Malaysia friendship in the fields of security and defense, trade, investment, education, tourism and people-to-people diplomacy. Thanking VUFO for hosting the event, he also updated with joy on planned activities to promote people-to-people diplomacy between Malaysia and Vietnam, including Malaysia Culture Week, Malaysia Food Fair and Education Fair.

Vietnam and Malaysia lifted their ties to strategic partnership in 2015. The two countries aim at reaching a two-way trade value of USD 15 billion by 2020.

In the first half of 2018, Vietnam – Malaysia bilateral trade reached USD 6.67 billion, growing by 19.2% year over year. Malaysia ranks the 7th among countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 562 projects worth over USD 12 billion.

About 65,000 Vietnamese people are currently living in Malaysia. The overseas communities serve as the bridge of friendship and understanding between the two countries./.
