Honoring Australian volunteers in Vietnam

(VNF) - On 4 December, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Craig Chittick hosted a meeting with Australian volunteers on the occasion of International Volunteer Day (December 5).

Since 1973, Australia has more than 1,000 volunteers to work in Vietnam. They have skills and experience relevant to Vietnam's development priorities.

Australian volunteers participate in many areas: education and training, community development, private enterprise, agriculture, gender equality and health.

Vietnam is currently the 5th largest volunteer recipient from Australia. Every year, over 40 Australian volunteers work in Vietnam. A new volunteer program launched  by Australian Government  in February demonstrates Australia's commitment to supporting the international volunteer program.

Speaking at the ceremony, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Craig Chittick emphasized: "I am proud of Australian volunteers not only for their contributions to the success of organizations in Vietnam but also their contributions for the development of Vietnam. They are goodwill ambassadors to build strong links between Australian and Vietnamese organizations and individuals. "
