The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee plans to kick off a Tet Flower Festival on February 10th in Tao Dan Park of District 1 and will open 130 Tet flower markets around the city.

The 12-day festival will feature an exhibition area (fish, tableaux and others), various activities (such as musical performances, calligraphy and activities for kids), and shopping areas, consisting of 40 stalls selling traditional goods and souvenirs. Tickets are VND 30,000 (USD 1.32) per adult. Kids under 12 year have free entry.

Around 1,000 free bus tickets and festival tickets will be given free to workers who cannot go home for Tet.  In addition, around 130 Tet flower markets will be held all over the city during Tet, such as District 1’s 23-9 Park, Phu Nhuan District’s Gia Dinh Park and many other areas.

The city is considering new policies to aid flower markets, such as allowing large flower trucks to enter the city centre more freely, or allocating more spaces for Tet flower markets. Farmers have been told to not allow their business activities to obstruct traffic.

In addition, a flower street will be opened on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street in Ho Chi Minh City from February 13th to 19th to welcome the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) 2018. The annual event, themed “Khat vong vuon xa” (aspiration for further development), aims to present a city of development and integration, yet preserving its traditional culture.

The 720 metre-long flower street will be decorated with different flowers following three sub-themes of the spring in the city, integration and development, and looking forward to the future. Meanwhile, the area around the statue of late President Ho Chi Minh will be covered with yellow apricot (a typical flower during Tet in the south) and peach (a typical flower during Tet in the north).

Imitations of domestic dogs will be on display at the welcome gate as sacred animals in the Year of the Dog, while real visual photo-shooting technology will serve visitors. This is the 15th version of the flower street to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year in the city./.
