Hanoi’s Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association bridges two people

(VNF) - The Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association’s Hanoi chapter convened its fifth congress on September 30th, during which it set to strengthen the introduction of the city’s culture and people to Japanese friends.

Delegates elected 26 members to the Executive Committee of the association in the 2017-2022 tenure with Vu Van Vien, Director of the Hanoi’s Department of Transport, elected as Chairman of the association.

The Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association in Hanoi effectively implemented its plan, contributing to the people-to-people relations of the city.

Along with joining people-to-people diplomatic activities, the association also engaged in friendship events to introduce Hanoi to international friends in general and in Japan in particular, while helping Japanese friends to study the culture, architecture and socio-economy of the capital city.

Performance at the congress. 

Specifically, the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association of Hanoi in the past five years has held many practical activities such as organising a photo exhibition on "The country, life and people of Vietnam and Japan " with the participation of Japanese photographer - Teruyo Iwahori and Hanoi’s photographers in 2013; Peace Festival with the theme "Vietnam-Japan Friendship Song" every two years; supporting the The Aikido Club chapter organising a Japanese martial arts exchanges programs with Japanese universities and colleges; organising the "Japanese Culture Day" on occasion of the anniversary of 40 years of Viet Nam-Japan diplomatic ties; cooperating with Hanoi Zoo 1TV Co., Ltd taking care of 700 cherry blossoms presented by the Japan – Vietnam Friendship Association’s chapter in the Chukyo region of Japan, etc.

In the 2017-2022 term, the association will expand its external relations and international cooperation as well as cultural exchanges to promote the city’s image.

The association will act to boost economic, cultural, sport and tourism connections between Vietnam and Japan as well as the two capital cities.

In addition, the association will also continue to hold friendship exchange programmes along with programmes to celebrate National Day; the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the political events of the two countries. Meanwhile the association will co-ordinate with the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association, the Japanese Embassy and Japan’s parners to organise cultural exchange events between two countries.

Addressing the event, Nguyen Lan Huong, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations, appreciated the achievements of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association, Hanoi branch in the past term.

She expressed his hope that the association will continue to implement significant activities which will contribute to boosting bilateral relations between the two countries.

On this occasion, groups and  individuals have received certificates of merit from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations for their active contributions in people-to-people diplomacy in the term 2012 – 2017./.
