Friendship Associations of Vietnam and Cambodia achieve positive results in implementing joint agreement

(VNF) - The Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association and the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association joined a meeting on October 8th to review the implementation of the agreement signed between the two sides in 2015 in Dong Thap province, and discuss action plans in the time to come. 

The two associations sign a joint minute of the joint session. 

The meeting was held as part of the 4th Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship and Cooperation Meeting, taking place in Ho Chi Minh City from October 7th to October 12th.

The event welcomed the participation of Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Men Sam An, Cambodian ambassador to Vietnam Prak Nguon Hong, Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association Vu Mao, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO)  Bui Khac Son and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Le Thanh Liem.

The meeting also brought together members of Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Associations and provinces located in border areas and the Youth Union from two countries.

According to the report on the implementation of the agreement signed between the two Friendship Associations two years ago, cooperation activities have been conducted effectively in diverse formats and themes.

Particularly, various meaningful programmes have been organized in both countries, with a view to achieving the goals stated in the agreement.

Since the signing of the agreement, the number of delegations exchange between associations at provincial level has been increased to hundreds, playing an important role in strengthening cooperation, promoting solidarity and mutual understanding between two countries.

In addition, the two associations have reinforced education and propaganda programme  broadcasting the long-standing solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia, targeting both members and peoples in each country via multi channels journalism (particularly on the two parties and States’ news and media systems), movie screening, arts exhibitions, among others.)

In addition, the two associations also pay attention to raising  people’s awareness of hostile forces’ conspiracy to deteriorate the unity and friendship between the two nations; urging their members not to participate in rallies and riots against the governments, which aims to incite divisiveness.

In particular, the Cambodian side took the chance to thank all the people of Vietnam for increasing charitable activities in supporting poor localities in Cambodia, including providing free medical checkup and treatment for needy patients.

Delegates at the meeting also hailed the initiative of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in launching “Nurturing Seeds of Friendship”, a meaningful project which aims to create heart-warming bonds between Cambodian students in Vietnam and the local people.

The Vietnamese side, for their part, sincerely thanked the Cambodian People's Party, the Government and the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association for facilitating the repatriation of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts' remains, and contributing to the maintenance and preservation of the memorial statue of Vietnam Volunteer Soldiers in Cambodia.

Regarding action plans in the coming time, two associations will join hands to organize a series of celebration and commemoration activities for historic events such as the 40th anniversary of the victory over the Pol Pot genocide regime (January 7th, 1979-2019).

At the same time, two association will foster propaganda in promoting and fruitfully implementing the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Statement, on occasion of the visit to Cambodia in July 2017 by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the invitation of His Majesty King Norodom Shihamoni.

In addition, two associations will continue to implement the agreement signed between two associations in 2015 in Dong Thap province, which focuses on the following tasks: fostering the activities of Friendship Associations in localities; promoting charitable activities to support people in difficult areas of the two countries; organizing exchange programme in the fields of culture, tourism and sports among the youths; coordinating with border guard forces of the two countries to foster humanitarian aid in the border areas.

Speaking at the meeting, VUFO Vice Chairman Bui Khac Son highly appreciated the achievements of the two associations in recent years.

He believes that good practices and experiences will continue to be applied by two Friendship Associations in order to improve their operation effectiveness in the coming time.

The Vice Chairman also affirmed that VUFO will keep supporting and facilitating the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in striving toward its goals.

At the same time, VUFO would like to continue to receive support and assistance from multi-level agencies, organizations and individuals to tighten the friendship and cooperation among the Vietnamese and Cambodian people in the coming time.

Summing up the conference, Deputy PM of Cambodia Men Sam An stressed that the cooperation activities of the two associations have achieved positive results, which is significant to the celebration of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2017.

These activities will continue to be developed not only in the two countries' friendship but also in the coming years.

Vietnam - Cambodia are close neighbors and friends who keep standing by each other’s side during critical period of history. The friendship and unified spirit of the two countries have been unwaveringly cultivated through thick and thin, reaping brilliant achievement.

Moving on to the new stage of cooperation, Deputy PM Men Sam An expressed hope that the two countries and two Friendship Associations will push forward cooperation in the time to come, contributing to the peace of each country, of the region and the world.

The two sides should promote cooperation in the field of defense, diplomacy, and join hand to maintain a border area of peace, cooperation and amity, she noted.

She also urged the two sides to attach importance to the development of the people's relations in all fields, especially among residents living in the border provinces, and facilitate cooperation and exchanges, together boosting socio-economic development./.
