Festival hotline launched

The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has officially announced a hotline to receive reports from residents and localities about activities related to cultural festivals as well as difficulties in organising and managing festivals in Hanoi from 2019.

The hotline 0869 295538 is available 24 hours a day and the number will be posted publicly at festival sites.

Queries will be handled directly by the operator. More complex cases will be reported to the department management for solutions.

Earlier, the department issued a plan for managing and organising cultural festivals in the city in 2019.

Accordingly, the organisation of festivals must be formal, economical, practical and effective. All acts of commercialisation for profit-making in organising festivities, which destroy cultural, historical and spiritual values must be prevented.

The department requested the People’s Committees of districts, wards and townships to set up an organisation and management plan in order to ensure security, order and environmental sanitation during and after the festivals.

The department will coordinate with localities to deal with problems related to direction and management of festival organisation.

There are around 8,000 festivals held across the country, 90 per cent of which are traditional festivals, mostly taking place in spring and autumn. They are considered the most beautiful, and they afford farmers the most free time.

Many practices that are considered rude have been banned in the last couple years, including gambling, burning votive paper and offering small notes at religious sites./.
