Cambodian PM Hun Sen to visit Vietnam next month

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen will lead a high-ranking delegation of the Cambodian Government on an official visit to Vietnam from December 6-8.

The visit will be made at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, according to a statement released by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 29.

Before visiting Vietnam, PM Hun Sen will lead a high delegation to pay an official visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal on November 29-30 and to attend the “Asia-Pacific Summit 2018-Nepal” in Kathmandu on November 30 - December 2, according to Cambodian Foreign Ministry’s press release dated November 26.

During this official visit, PM Hun Sen will pay a courtesy call on Her Excellency Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, and hold bilateral talks with His Excellency Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. Thereafter, the two leaders will preside over the signing ceremony of a number of documents on bilateral cooperation.

At the Asia Pacific Summit 2018-Nepal, PM Hun Sen will make a keynote address on the theme of the Asia Pacific 2018-Nepal “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values”.

On December 5, he will pay official visit to Laos and continue visit Vietnam on December 6.

Vietnam and Cambodia officially established diplomatic relations on June 24, 1967. The two nations have regularly maintained the exchange of visits at all levels.

Vietnam has become one of Cambodia’s leading economic partners with two-way trade reaching nearly USD 3.8 billion in 2017, up more than 25 percent year-on-year. The two countries are striving to raise the figure to USD 5 billion in the coming years.

Vietnam has to date invested in 206 projects in Cambodia with combined registered capital of USD 3.02 billion, ranking in the top five foreign investors in Cambodia.  Meanwhile, Cambodia has poured USD 58.1 million into 18 projects in Vietnam.

In 2017, up to 835,000 Vietnamese visited Cambodia while 222,000 Cambodians went on tours of Vietnam./.
