Blue Dragon Children's Foundation prevents children from migrating unaccompanied in Thua Thien Hue

(VNF) - The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has recently received support from two foreign organisations in caring for children and people with disabilities in the forms of gifts and welfare projects.

On June 25th, the provincial People Committee granted approval to receive the non-refundable project “Preventing minors from migrating unaccompanied to high-income countries for work and child labor abuse in Thua Thien Hue” sponsored by Blue Dragon Children's Foundation (Australia).

The project aims to reduce the number of disadvantaged children in Phu Loc and Phu Vang districts who migrated in search for livelihood and became victims of labour abuse with major activities include bringing children home to be reunited with their families and helping them re-integrate into the society, as well as providing support to young women and unaccompanied migrant children with high risks of labour abuse. Besides, the project also helps improve skills and capacity for provincial and local authorities in dealing with the cases of unaccompanied migrant children and child labor abuse and creating a safe and sound environment for them.

The total capital of the project is VND 2.45 billion (USD 111.364), of which the non-refundable capital is VND 2.35 billion and reciprocal capital VND 100 million (raised from the voluntary contributions of government officers, members of local women’s associations).

The project will be implemented by the provincial Women’s Union in two years from 2018.

Meanwhile, the Provincial People’s Committee also gave approval to receive 976 wheelchairs worth USD 65,684 donated by the U.S.-based Giving it Back to Kids organisation to the province’s Association for the Support of Handicapped and Orphans  for the handicapped in the province.

Earlier in 2017, the Giving it Back to Kids organisation also presented people with disabilities in Thua Thien-Hue with 520 wheelchairs at total value of VND 1.04 billion (USD 45,760)./.
