Bac Giang’s Vietnam-Czech- Slovakia Friendship Association established

(VNF) - On May 12th, the Vietnam-Czech-Slovakia Friendship Association of Bac Giang province held the founding Congress for the 2018-2023 tenure.

Duong Van Luan, Vice Chairman cum General Secretary of Bac Giang Union of Friendship Organisations was elected as President of the association for the 2018-2023 tenure, heading a 27-member-executive board.

The diplomatic ties between Vietnam and former Czechoslovakia (the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic at present) were established on February 2nd, 1950, their traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation have been enhanced. The two countries not only support Vietnam in its past struggle for national liberation and its current national construction cause. Currently, the Czech Republic and Slovakia annually grant scholarships to Vietnamese students and PhD students.

On March 15th, the Vietnam-Czech-Slovakia Friendship Association of Bac Giang province was established with more than 3,000 members. The Association was established to enhance and expand the solidarity, friendship traditions and mutual understanding between the Vietnamese people and the people of the two countries. It will act as a bridge for the development of economic, trade, scientific, technical, educational, cultural and social relations between the province and the two countries.

During its first term from 2018 to 2023, the newly-founded friendship association will enhance its important role in promoting people-to-people diplomatic activities between the province and Czech and Slovak localities.  This will help maintain peace as well as strengthen bilateral solidarity, friendship and cooperation with the two’s people through their practical cooperative solutions.

Addressing the event, Permanent Vice Chairman of provincial People's Committee Lai Thanh Son expressed his hope that through the provincial Vietnam- Czech-Slovakia Friendship Association, the cooperation between Czech and Slovak businesses and people with Bac Giang will be tightened.

Son said that the expansion of the membership should not be restricted to those who have studied and worked in Czechoslovakia before.

To act as a bridge to build a peaceful, solidarity and friendship between the people of Vietnam and the two countries, Son suggested that the association engage in the political and cultural events to boost friendship exchanges; strengthen information and communication activities; enhance the coordination relations to better fulfill the tasks of the people's external relations; establish bilateral relations with the Czech and Slovak people's organisations; promote cultural exchanges, pave the way for cooperation in trade and economy, science and technology, education, culture, sports and tourism; and create favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to come back, visit their homeland and relatives, or conduct commercial and investment activities in Vietnam, etc./.
