Ambassador Hoang Anh Tuan serves as Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN

(VNF) - On November 12, the ASEAN Coordinating Council officially approved the appointment of Vietnamese Ambassador Hoang Anh Tuan as the Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN for political – security affairs for the 2018 – 2021 term.

Sharing on his Facebook on November 12, Ambassador Hoang Anh Tuan thanked the trust of the Vietnamese leaders, emphasizing he would always try and make the greatest effort on his new position.

Ambassador Hoang Anh Tuan was born in 1965 in Hanoi. He began his diplomatic career in 1991 when he became a research fellow at the Institute of International Relations, now the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.

Fluent in English, he has extensive experience in foreign affairs and research in international relations.

During his stay in Indonesia, Ambassador Hoang Anh Tuan repeatedly contacted the authorities regarding the return of fishermen arrested by the country. Thousands of Vietnamese fishermen have been handed over by air and sea by 2015.


Ambassador Hoang Anh Tuan graduated from the Institute of International Relations (now Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam) in 1988, graduated with a Master's degree in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA in June 1999.

He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA, in May 2003.

He holds a degree in Political Theory and Advanced State Administration at the Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy and National Academy of Public Administration.

He was accredited as an Associate Professor in October 2015.
