19th Asian Physics Olympiad to take place in Vietnam

(VNF) - The 19th Asian Physics Olympiad 2018 (APhO 2018) will take place in Hanoi from May 5th to 15th, 2018, with the participation of 30 delegations from 30 countries and territories.

APhO 2018 will attract 30 competing teams representing 30 countries and territories (each team consists of 8 students and 2 teachers) and 60 scientific observers.

According to the Vietnam News, the Prime Minister has approved a project on organizing the event to encourage the study and teaching of physics in schools, thus seeking and nurturing talented students in the subject.

A National Steering Committee for APhO 2018 led by Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha has also been set up.

The Committee's task is to coordinate with Ministries, sectors and localities to prepare and organize the competition, while directing and supervising the implementation of the work. The Hanoi University of Science and Technology will act as chair of the event.

As the host of APhO 2018, Vietnam hopes to boost the learning and teaching of Physics at school.

At the same time, the competition will help the country shortlist and nurture gifted students in the subject, as well as strengthen the connection between Vietnam and other countries in education and science./.
